As a little girl, my precious Mama taught me this song; This Little Light Of Mine I’m Gonna Let It Shine with hand motions. I too taught it to my kids.
Any card or happy note I wrote to my kids, I would end it by writing, Remember to shine Jesus’ Light. This meaningful phrase resonated with my daughters in good and hard times. Shining Jesus’ Light is the First Pearl I have passed down to my daughters.
Fondly I remember when they were chosen to be Middle School Ambassadors, I told them “ See the teachers are seeing Jesus’ Bright Light Shine through your happy smiles and your friendly hearts.”
Anyone that knows me, knows that my Bernedoodle pup, Gibson and I make a friend wherever we go. My daughters growing up would hear me tell stories about different friends I made growing up and stayed connected with. They to do the same.
Often times my oldest daughter Hannah , was in a way a counselor to her friends especially in High School. She is an old soul and wise beyond her years. Her Freshman year at Baylor she made friends easily. She told me one time after class she went up to one of her classmates and said” I liked your comment today, would you like to get coffee sometime.”
My youngest daughter, Lilly Grace is a loyal friend and a great listener. In High School she had to navigate “mean girls”. My heart broke for her. I would listen and then I would tell her my experiences navigating “ mean girls”, even to this day. I would tell her that she was smart and she knew who was an authentic friend or not. Reminding her that having true friendships would mean more to her than wanting to be in the popular group. What hard words to hear when you are a teenager and want to be in the in crowd.
Shining Jesus’ Light is a wonderful song to keep in our hearts. I have told my girls once you have accepted Jesus in your heart, his light shines through effortlessly. A lot of times you have no idea what a smile, an authentic compliment, a listening ear, kindness, or a prayer might be just what your friend needs that day.
Jesus is Our Light of the World. Jesus is Our Lighthouse, a beacon of Hope. The Light of Jesus guides our path, even in treacherous storms. We can see the Lighthouse that illuminates our spiritual path to move forward.
These Hopeful and Joyful lyrics bring Glory to our Heavenly Father. Matthew 5: 14-16 says: You are the Light of the World. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, but it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
