Now that we are Empty Nesters my husband, Andy got him a Camper. He has wonderful memories camping with his Dad and brother at Gulf Shores, Alabama. He told me they would go out for fresh seafood every night.
I too camped some in a mint green and white popup camper near Warrior River and Tanehill, Alabama. The camper was small for the four of us. My parents bed was about the size of a twin bed, thankfully they were small. And my twin brother slept on the top cot and I was on the bottom.
Many camping trips it poured and that was an adventure going to the bath house for a shower. Mama and I would giggle trying to find our way back to the camper. We only had one flashlight.
We had delicious food. My hardworking mama made sure she had all the necessities packed. Of course they would work together to make a delicious breakfast. The bacon smelled better in the woods.
Daddy made the best bonfire. We would have his famous Baked Beans in his cast iron pan, smoked hot dogs, toasted buns on the outside grill, and of course many toasted marshmallows. Daddy and Mama told interesting stories about their childhood around the fire. My favorite story was his version of Bloody Bones. He ended the scary story in his deep sergant voice, Bloody Bones is gonna get cha. Then we all laughed.
One time I woke up and it was very loud outside and Daddy told us a Family of raccoons had gotten in our vintage green Coleman cooler. Maybe my stylish Mama picked it out to match the camper. Those raccoons had a feast. They ate the middle of the Hershey chocolate bars and opened up a bag of marshmallows.
At that time I was disappointed I wouldn’t get to eat s’mores. But now it’s a very funny story. It sounded like an Army attacking our campsite.
Daddy loved the outdoors and Mama was a good sport. My parents once again remind me of finding the Joy in the Simplicity of Life. When camping you are surrounded by God’s Nature, Relaxation, and Family Connection.
