Unknown to me this was the last Christmas with my Beautiful Mama. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2013 and passed away in July 2014.
This is the only picture I have of her. Although it’s blurry, I am so thankful I have it. This one picture tells a thousand words. My Parents always dressed Festive on every Holiday. Mama is wearing an Evergreen turtleneck with a sparkly Snowman and Daddy is wearing Cheerful Red.
The Snowman reminds me of my Childhood Home. Every Christmas Daddy would wait to get a real live Christmas Tree from the Farmers Market on my last day of school for the Holidays.
He never told me why he waited to buy our Christmas Tree. Now that he is in Heaven, I believe he waited until I was out of school because he loved Christmas the Most of All. He wanted us all to enjoy decorating the Tree Together. To be honest I never said it out loud, but our Christmas Tree looked jut liked the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. I’m sure there wasn’t many trees to choose from.
Daddy proudly would bring in our Christmas Tree in the front door and the dried pine needles would fall everywhere. Mama immediately would be so Grateful and say “Rayford that is the most Beautiful Tree You Have Ever Selected.” Then Mama would get a white sheet from the linen closet and that would be our tree skirt. She always said it’s “A Blanket of Snow.”
Oh how Mama loved Music anytime of the year. She went to one of her prized possessions, her record player. She selected Frosty the Snowman and played it. Then she would begin to sing along full of Joy and Merriment.
You can tell from my only picture the love between my precious kids and my precious parents.
Hannah asked for Mama Doris’ Frosty the Snowman Record after Mama Doris went to Heaven. My Loving Daughter displays her Grandmother’s special record in her Christmas collection. I have a feeling once she has a Family, she too will play this Meaningful Record when they trim their Family Christmas Tree Together.
